Today we’re happy to share an adoption success story, featuring Dian and her dog Ellbee. Dian had a dog before she got Ellbee, a cairn terrier. He passed on the 19th of December in 2022. Dian was heartbroken and looking for a furry companion to fill the void. While scrolling on Facebook, she saw a post shared by P.A.W.S. foster, Linda Parsons, featuring Ellbee and it was love at first sight. Ellbee is a cairn terrier just like her beloved pooch, and Dian was smitten. She arranged to meet Linda at PetSmart with Ellbee, and Ellbee was such a sweet thing that Dian couldn’t pass up the opportunity to take him home.

Dian had adopted pets before, but never from P.A.W.S. Ellbee was originally named L.B., but he had been through some trauma and Dian didn’t want to change his name too much. She changed it to Ellbee so it would sound the same.
When she took him home, Ellbee didn’t even seem to know he was somewhere new. He made himself right at home in the house and in Dian’s heart. Dian said, “It was like that’s been his home for a long time.” It’s just Dian and Ellbee in the home, so he didn’t have to get used to other people or pets.
One thing Dian is not fond of is Ellbee’s tendency to eat poop. Although given his history of neglect and abuse, and considering that poop may have very well been the only thing he had to eat during that time, it’s unsurprising. Thankfully, Ellbee will stop and come to Dian when he hears her call him.

Despite his troubled past, Ellbee is a very sweet and loving dog. He wants to be with people every second. He’s now mostly blind and hard of hearing at thirteen, but you wouldn’t know it. Ellebee loves to eat. He will eat anything, so Dian has to be careful about where she leaves things. One time she left a bag of treats where Ellebee could reach it, and he ate the entire two pound bag. He does have a favorite toy, which is a heavy duty toy that was given to him by P.A.W.S. volunteer Beverly Parsons.
Dian’s relationship with Ellbee has only deepened over time. She said, “We just love each other.” He’s a very snuggly and affectionate dog that likes spending time with Dian. His snuggly nature is very heartwarming to Dian. She makes up songs with his name in it, he knows when it’s time for supper and time to go to bed.

Ellbee has impacted Dian’s life in a wonderful way. Dian went from having an ornery dog to a very sweet dog. “If God sends angels with fur, he’s it,” she said. He makes life worth getting up in the morning for Dian.
Dian has some advice for people looking to adopt a pet. She recommends adopting from a trustworthy place like P.A.W.S. P.A.W.S. foster parents can tell you more about the animal’s personality. Dian said that she would absolutely adopt again in the future if anything were to happen to Ellbee. She said if she got another dog, she’d come to P.A.W.S. first.
