In the world of pet adoption, sometimes fate intervenes, leading us down unexpected paths. For Connie, her journey to welcoming Onyx into her home was a serendipitous tale sparked by a chance internet discovery and fueled by the invaluable guidance of a caring P.A.W.S. volunteer, Leah. Here's Onyx's adoption story in Connie's own words.
"I have always been an animal lover and have had many small pets such as hamsters and Guinea Pigs, but not for many years. We have primarily had dogs and a few cats. One day I was just searching the internet looking at rescues nearby, as I do from time to time. I saw a picture and a little write up about this beautiful black bunny but kept scrolling as I was not looking for a bun. But there was just something about her, and I found myself going back for a peek every few days. I can’t say for sure how long I resisted the urge to contact
[P.A.W.S.] about her, I guess 4 or 5 months. I believe she had even been adopted and returned once during this time, but I finally decided that it wouldn’t hurt just to find out a little more about her. All I knew was that she was pretty, litter box trained and not afraid of dogs, of which I had two at home.
I filled out an application and expected it to be at least a couple of days before I would hear anything but Leah [Onyx's foster] called me the very same evening! We talked for quite a while and she answered all of my questions and educated me on the complexities of having a house bunny.
We arranged a meet and greet at the [P.A.W.S.] office with my two small dogs and it went very well. It allowed more time for Q and A and further education. I think I knew then that she was going to be mine.
Just a few days later, it was August 3, 2022, after checking references etc., I was able to pick Onyx up and bring her home. She has been such a joy! She is a sister to my dogs and a favorite of my grandchildren as well!
Thanks P.A.W.S for helping all kinds of animals!"
Thanks to Connie and Onyx for sharing your story and to Leah for being a fantastic foster for P.A.W.S!
